Cardboard box, soft bag or hard case?
A cardboard box suits an occasional flight or the end of a route. A soft bag or hard travel case is reusable but bulky; Box & Ride can store it while you ride.
Carry it folded, then transfer to CDG / ORY
Keep the box folded until you reach the place where you will pack the bike. Once assembled it is bulky, so book a suitable vehicle and allow extra time to reach Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.
Pre-flight packing checklist
Assembly and packing time depends on your bike, so do not leave it until the last minute.
- Remove pedals and turn or remove the handlebars
- Protect the frame, derailleur and brake rotors
- Secure moving parts and close the box
- Label, measure and weigh the packed bike
Folded dimensions and flight dimensions are not the same
The folded size describes the empty box you carry after collection. Your airline checks the assembled box with the bicycle inside. Before reserving, ask for the available model’s external dimensions and check them against both your bike and your ticket conditions.
- Add together the weight of the bike, cardboard, padding and permitted accessories.
- Check limits on individual sides: a combined length, width and height allowance may still include a maximum length.
- A photograph or a ‘road bike’ label alone cannot confirm that your bicycle fits.
Get your tools ready before collecting the box
Identify the tools needed for your pedals, wheels, handlebar and seatpost. Record your setup and try the process beforehand if this is your first time dismantling the bike. Hydraulic, electric and integrated components may need particular care: follow the manufacturer and consult a mechanic if unsure.
- Keep small components together and labelled for reassembly.
- Protect contact points and secure parts; padding alone is not enough.
- Arrange a place to pack: reserving a box does not include a workshop service.
From Belleville to CDG or Orly: plan your departure
